About the event

Monthly Stories that Stir™ event, designed to break down barriers, stir conversation, and inspire positive change.

Come and listen to six storytellers, who will each share their 10-minute raw and personal story on the topic of STRENGTH, in all its shapes and forms.

Please join us for a night of extraordinary stories that will make you laugh, cry, and view the world in a different light.

The Big Swim – Charlie Pidcock

Charlie first thought about swimming the English Channel in the mid-1990s, planned it for about 10 years, and prepared solidly for the last 2 years. He has often been asked, his “Why” and had plenty of time to reflect while swimming. Charlie will have returned from his Channel swim just a few weeks before sharing his story. If you want to know how he went, this is your chance to listen to his story.

Balancing Act – Felicity Haylock

It's taken Felicity 10 years to get bloody good at walking the bipolar tightrope - without mania or depression throwing her off the path she is destined for. She was lecturing marketing at Uni when a 10-month-long manic episode derailed her entire career. She's back, baby - in a big way too!

Gratitude bring Grace – Nina Angelo

Nina's life has had a theme of using strength to survive. From the survival of her parents from where they met in Auschwitz concentration camp, and the loss of all her Polish Ashkenazi maternal, and Greek Sephardic paternal families, Nina tapped into her strength, faith, and commitment to survive a stage 4 Lymphoma.

Talking to strangers – Oksana Koriakova

How do you shut up a talkative person? You send them to a country where they don’t speak the language and don’t know anyone. Oksana shares how she turned a short 6-month visit to Australia into building a new life, business and a massive network of friends. All thanks to her strength, curiosity and talent for talking to strangers. After all, strangers are just friends that we haven't met.

Antifragile – Jessie Williams

When Jessie was 30 years old, she lost her first child at birth. The grief she experienced after was painful, enlightening, and ultimately re-formative. This led to a decade of social entrepreneurship, attempting to crack the cultural collusion of avoidance when it comes to talking about death.

Authenticity - Rob Prugue

What was authentic to our 11-year-old self is not necessarily the same when we turn 30, nor even when we turn 40, or in Rob’s case, 60. But as the years pass, and perhaps through wisdom from aging, he is getting closer to the truth, and as a result becoming his authentic self. Most who suffer trauma understand this very well, let alone have lived it.

Please arrive by 7pm to enjoy a drink and mingling. Seating at 7.20pm with the storytelling commencing at 7.30pm sharp. * If you'd like to have dinner beforehand, the bistro downstairs serves delicious meals.

* Trigger warning: Story content may include sensitive topics such as trauma, suicide, death etc.
